Ishan Kishan’s heroics rescues India from facing a clean sweep

India National Team 3

The duo of Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli helped India edge past Bangladesh in the third ODI to avoid a series whitewash.

India had already lost the 3-match ODI series to Bangladesh before coming in for the third game. The men in blue lost 2 hard-fought games by the narrowest of margins. And to hurt India even further, Rohit Sharma got ruled out owing to a thumb injury he sustained in the second game. KL Rahul was named captain for the third and final match.

Ishan Kishan replaced Rohit and came out to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. However, India lost Shikhar early. But, Ishan looked to make the most of this rare opportunity. Despite losing an early wicket, he kept on attacking the bowlers. Virat Kohli had to play the supporting fiddle, eyeing Ishan’s unreal batting. Within no time, Kishan recorded his maiden century in ODIs.

India posted a gigantic total of 409 runs in the first innings

Ishan Kishan looked in no mood to stop after the century. He did not slow down and kept scoring runs at the same pace. In the blink of an eye, Ishan reached 150, and it was only a matter of time before he got to that magical figure of 200. And, he did. Ishan Kishan scored his double century and set the record for being the fastest one to reach the feat. The opener fell right after scoring a double hundred. But, Virat took over, and he also scored his 72nd international century. He ended his ODI century drought.

At the end of 50 overs, India had 409 runs on the board. In reply, Bangladesh tried hard, but a couple of early blows dented their chances. The pressure of the target was too high, and Bangladesh could not bear the burn of it. Eventually, the home team was bowled out for a mere 182 runs. India registered a win with 227 runs.

India kept their pride as a team intact and avoided an embarrassing series whitewash. Now, the team moves on to a 2-match test series. India will play without their regular skipper in the first game as Rohit is yet to recover.
