Jaffer wants an extra batsman in SRH in place of Umran Malik

Wasim Jaffer

Former India cricketer, Wasim Jaffer has recently given his take on the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals.

IPL franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their fifth defeat of the season as they lost by 7 runs to Delhi Capitals at home.

Additionally, they were pretty much in control in the first innings of the game but due to poor bowling decisions, they allowed Delhi to post a target of 144/9 on the board.

Furthermore, the total proved to be too much for SRH to chase down and they collapsed at 137/6 in their 20 overs and are now languishing in ninth place.

That’s why former India cricketer, Wasim Jaffer has stated that SRH is better off adding an extra batter if they don’t want to use pacer Umran Malik properly.

In the game against Delhi, Malik bowled only two overs and gave only 14 runs without getting any scalps.

Furthermore, in the tournament so far, he has gotten only 5 wickets for himself and his team.

Says Jaffer,

SRH are playing Umran Malik, but he bowled only two overs in the match against Delhi. Instead of him, they could have played a batter. If you don’t trust him as a bowler, it’s better to bring in a batsman to the team.

Adding further, he says,

Delhi were 62/5 at one point, but Hyderabad allowed them to reach 144. If they had bowled better, things could have been easier for them. Letting Delhi make 144 was a mistake by SRH.

Jaffer suggests changes in the batting order of SRH

Commenting further on Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jaffer added that the team needs to make massive changes to their batting order.

According to him, Harry Brook should be sent down the order while Abhishek Sharma should be sent up so that there is depth in the batting for the Orange Army.

Furthermore, he is also of the opinion that SRH needs more enhancement in their batting order to win the remaining games.

Looking at their batting order, I feel Abhishek Sharma is a better option as an opener. Most of his runs for SRH have come as an opener. He is batting out of position [in the middle-order]. Harry Brook could bat at four or five. That will strengthen their lower-order batting. With the likes of Aiden Markram, Brook and Heinrich Klaasen, their batting in the middle and death overs will become strong. They will need to improve their batting combination and their batting order.

Looking back at the game, the Delhi Capitals got some much-needed runs from Manish Pandey and Axar Patel towards the end.

Skipper Warner won the toss and decided to bat first at Hyderabad but DC got a poor start right at the beginning.

Therefore, Hyderabad will now look to learn from their mistakes and improve themselves for their next game.
