In England’s selection meeting, Joe Root expressed his wish to bat at No.3 to Andrew Strauss and all others present.

This move was applauded by one and all and Strauss also said that this is the best time for Root to switch gears as England’s Test team is going into a reset.

Alex Lees is ready to open the batting with Zak Crawley and Root will follow at No.3 which will give more room in the batting lineup to other inexperienced players to play comfortably.

Ben Foakes will most likely wicket-keep and bat at No.7 so, it will be Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes or either Ollie Pope or Dan Lawrence who will fill up the positions from No.4-6.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Strauss revealed,

The first thing he (Root) said in selection was that he was very keen to bat three moving forward. That came from him; that was his request. And I think everyone agrees that that’s probably a healthy thing for the England cricket team at the moment.

Earlier, Dawid Malan, Haseeb Hamid and Rory Burns got the axe from the team for the Windies tour.

Jos Buttler’s Test career also seems rather precarious at the moment. But Strauss assured the media that Buttler will play long-term for England.
