Johnson Charles signed by KKR, in place of Litton Das

Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR Squad

Litton Das left Kolkata Knight Riders and returned to the country during the IPL. Knight Riders announced the transfer of the Bangladeshi cricketer. They have taken West Indies batter Johnson Charles in the team. KKR informed this on Friday morning.

Charles is a familiar face in twenties cricket. He has a reputation as a devastating opener. A month ago, he broke Chris Gayle’s record by scoring a hundred in only 39 balls in T20 for West Indies. KKR’s batting lineup got a bit stronger with the arrival of Charles.

Even though they are eighth in the IPL points table, KKR still have a chance to make it to the playoffs. That is why a new foreigner has been taken into the team. However, it is not certain whether he will be available against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. Maybe Charles will join the team before the next match.

KKR managemt boufht Litton in the auction before the IPL this time. However, he joined the team much later. Litton played only one match and made only 4 runs. He had a very poor performance behind the wicket as well. After that Litton did not get a chance in Kolkata’s first eleven. After that he returned to the country for family reasons.

Johnson Charles was in the 2016 West Indies team that toured India for World Cup

The devastating batsman Johnson Charles scored the fastest century for West Indies. Not only that, he also won the World Cup for the country, that too in Eden. Charles is going to step into the dressing room of that city team this time.

Although Charles played both in one-day and T20 teams for West Indies, he is mainly popular as a T20 batsman. He played T20 for West Indies for the first time in 2011. Charles went down to open as Chris Gayle’s pair. He has played a total of 38 T20s so far. However, he came to the headlines on March 26 this year. For West Indies against South Africa he scored only 39 balls. Charles hit 10 fours and 11 sixes in the innings of 118 runs off 46 balls. Earlier, Gayle scored a 49-ball hundred against England in 2016 for West Indies. That was a record. Charles broke that record too.

After Darren Sammy, Charles is the second cricketer from St. Lucia to play for the West Indies. He was also in the T20 World Cup team that came to India in 2016. That time, West Indies won the World Cup defeating England. Carlos Braithwaite hit four sixes at Eden Gardens winning the final for West Indies.

KKR fans expecting hope with new inclusion in the team

Johnson Charles scored 825 runs in 38 T20 matches for the country. He has 4 fifties along with 1 century. Apart from batting, he is also a wicket keeper. So, instead of having just one wicket-keeper batsman, Knight Riders can now have options in it.

However, before this, Charles have played in T20 leagues of different countries. This batsman has played for Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League, Sylhet Thunder in the Bangladesh Premier League and Jaffna Stallions in the Lankan Premier League. This time he will be playing on the stage of IPL. KKR is trying to solve the opening problem by holding Charles. Lets see, if this 34-year-old Caribbean batter can put a smile on Kolkata’s supporters!
