Team India is currently playing a four-match Test series against Australia. Rohit Sharma-led side leads 2-0 with comprehensive wins in both matches. The first match in Nagpur saw innings win for the hosts while they won the second match in Delhi by six wickets. In the first Test, Rohit had scored a century while the Indian bowlers secured a thumping win in the second match. However, former India captain Kapil Dev was critical of Rohit’s fitness, despite his leadership in retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Recently, there have been debates over Rohit’s fitness. In an interaction on ABP News, Kapil urged Rohit to work on his “weight.”

‘LOOKS OVERWEIGHT ON TELEVISION’: KAPIL

Kapil said:

“It is very important for any player to be fit. More so for a captain. It’s a shame if you are not up to the mark as far as fitness levels are concerned. Rohit needs to put some hard work on his fitness.”

“Rohit is a great batter but when you talk about his fitness levels, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, I realise it’s different when you look at someone on TV and in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit,”

Kapil further added.

While Rohit Sharma’s cricketing ability cannot be doubted, there is a “huge question mark” on his fitness, according to the veteran ex-cricketer. Kapil expressed his opinion about Rohit’s fitness during an interaction on ABP News.

“I can say with surety that there is a huge doubt over Rohit’s fitness. He has faced a lot of criticism for not scoring well since he became the captain. I kind of agree with it but I don’t believe there is any issue with his cricketing skills,”

Kapil finished.

India’s T20 and ODI teams have dominated the ICC rankings under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. The team reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022, and although they were eliminated early from the Asia Cup last year, they are currently at the top of the rankings.
