KL Rahul ends 2022 on an appalling note after yet another failure

KL

Indian opener, KL Rahul marked yet another failure against Bangladesh in the second test and hence ends 2022 on a disastrous note.

KL Rahul stepped into Rohit Sharma’s shoes for the test series against Bangladesh and led the side. Rohit missed out due to a thumb injury. However, captaincy did not bring a change in fortune for the 30-year-old who has had a terrible year with the bat so far. KL scored 12 runs in total in both innings combined against Bangladesh in the second test match in Mirpur.

Bangladesh put forward a target of 145 after scoring some quick runs late in the second innings. However, team India is left stranded in deep water after losing 4 wickets for 45 runs. KL Rahul, the skipper, was the first to go down. The hosts immediately started off with spinners with the new ball. KL looked to play it safe and switched to defensive mode. On one such delivery of Shakib-al-Hasan, KL leaned forward to tap the ball. But the ball turned and the outside edge went straight to the keeper.

KL Rahul finishes 2022 without a century across all formats

KL Rahul has had a terrible year. Right from the day, he returned to the side after the injury, his form went for a toss, especially in the ODIs and tests. KL Rahul, the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team, played 4 tests this year and scored 137 runs at a low average of 17.

The situation in ODIs remains the same. He played 10 ODIs in 2022 and scored 251 runs in total at an average of 27. His T20 numbers are slightly better than the other two formats, but not enough. Moreover, KL Rahul, who used to score centuries for fun, failed to register even a single ton in 2022.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is approaching at an accelerated pace, and with such a performance, fans and critics are questioning the vice-captain’s place in the team. KL Rahul needs to step up his game as soon as possible to keep his place on the national team intact. As far as this year is concerned, the ship has already sailed.
