Former Indian cricketer and coach, Anil Kumble stated that Punjab Kings would certainly target Cameron Green in the IPL 2023 auction.
Anil Kumble got ousted as the head coach of the Punjab Kings after the franchise’s debacle in the previous season of the IPL. Moreover, Punjab released their captain, Mayank Agarwal, and he is set to enter the IPL 2023 auction. They also released a large number of players and will be sitting at the auction table with a purse of 32.2 crores.
Ahead of the auction, the former coach spoke about the auction strategies of his former franchise. He stated that Punjab will certainly target Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green in the IPL 2023 auction. Odean Smith has been released, leaving Punjab Kings without an overseas all-rounder.
“They certainly need an overseas all-rounder in IPL 2023,” Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble believes that Cameron Green will be the best all-rounder option for Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 because he can bat and bowl at a high pace. He will provide a lot of advantages in all three departments.
‘’Punjab Kings have let go of their overseas all-rounder in Odean Smith. So, they will certainly look for an overseas all-rounder. So, there is Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran. In my view they will go for Cameron Green because he gives you a bit of pace, he is tall, hits the deck hard, and can also bat in the top three. So that’s something I think Punjab will look to do,”
Kumble further added that Punjab has an overseas all-rounder position to fill and they have a lot of money left as well. Hence, they have an opportunity to go hard on Cameron Green in IPL 2023 auction.
“And they certainly need an overseas all-rounder. The other two slots for the overseas options they have, they have plenty of options, they have plenty of money to spend. So, I guess they will probably fill up with an overseas spinning all-rounder and a batter,”
Cameron Green became a household name in cricket in just a short period of time. His attacking ability in the top order and pace with the ball has impressed fans all around the world. He is going to be a hot pick at the upcoming IPl 2023 auction. Moreover, he has the potential to become one of the most expensive overseas players at the IPL 2023 auction.
