On Thursday, Aiden Markram expressed his desire to see former Indian captain MS Dhoni play in SA20. Markram believes that Dhoni’s experience and knowledge of the game would greatly benefit local South African players. He stressed that the success and impact of SA20‘s inaugural edition exceeded his expectations.

In the final, Markram led SunRisers Eastern Cape to victory over Pretoria Capitals. Despite multiple delays, the T20 competition brought crowds back to the stadiums in the Rainbow Nation, creating a festive atmosphere at the venues.

MARKRAM HAS BEEN NAMED THE CAPTAIN OF SRH IN IPL

During a press conference arranged by SA20, Markram expressed his desire to see several Indian players participate in the league. However, he specifically mentioned that Dhoni was the top player on his mind. He told reporters that he could think of many Indian players who would be great additions to SA20, but none were as important as Dhoni.

“To be honest with you, someone like MS (Dhoni) would be great to have in your camp just for the guys to be able to learn from him. He has got all the knowledge and seen everything that this game has produced. For our local players in South Africa to be able to spend time with someone like MS Dhoni would be great. That’s one that comes to my mind, firstly but there would be a lot of players that would be discussed for sure.”

SRH appointed Markram as their new captain on Thursday. Aiden will take over from Kane Williamson, who was released after the team finished in 8th place. Markram will now lead the former champions in their upcoming matches.

During the auction, SRH acquired former Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal. Despite this, they chose to back Markram as their new captain due to his success with Eastern Cape. When asked about potential vice-captaincy options, Markram expressed difficulty in choosing between Bhuvi and Mayank.
