Matthew Hayden raises concerns over Dhoni’s fitness for CSK

MS Dhoni

After Chennai Super Kings‘ defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden shared news of the injury of CSK captain MS Dhoni, which could concern fans of the team. It was Dhoni’s 200th match as captain of the four-time champions. During the game, Hayden observed Dhoni limping, and stated that the 41-year-old is usually quite swift between the 22 yards, but it was not the case in the match against Rajasthan.

“We will not give fans the false expectations that nothing’s wrong. There is definitely something wrong with MS Dhoni. His running between the wickets is usually quite electric, which was not there today,”

Matthew Hayden said.

He further added:

“As the innings progressed on, we saw him limping quite heavily. There are some question marks, that I am sure that MS Dhoni will have to answer and the medical staff will get straight into it. He will want to keep playing in the tournament.”

MS DHONI ALMOST PULLED IT OFF

After the match, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that skipper MS Dhoni is currently recovering from a knee injury. However, the 41-year-old batsman still showed great form during the match, hitting some remarkable sixes. He scored an unbeaten 32 runs off 17 balls and partnered with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (25* off 15 balls) to give CSK a fighting chance.

Winning the toss, MS Dhoni invited RR to bat first. Jos Buttler’s half-century helped Rajasthan Royals set a target of 176 runs. Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande, and Ravindra Jadeja each grabbed two wickets, while Moeen Ali took one for CSK.

During the chase, CSK lost some key wickets early on. Despite this, Dhoni and Jadeja formed a promising partnership that nearly brought the victory to the team. However, Sandeep Sharma’s excellent bowling in the final over ultimately secured the win for RR, beating CSK by three runs.
