Punjab Kings made a recent announcement ahead of the IPL 2022.
They have named Mayank Agarwal as the new Punjab Kings’ skipper. Agarwal has been a part of the franchise since 2018.
Kumble was elated with this and said that Mayank will ably lead the side and that the talent pool that they have this season is a good bunch of youngsters and experienced players.
Mayank was one of the two players retained by Punjab Kings before the Mega Auctions. He has often captained the Punjab side in the absence of KL Rahul and has remained the vice-captain since 2018.
This is the first time Mayank is leading an IPL franchise. After KL Rahul parted ways and joined the Lucknow side, it was very obvious that Mayank will fill in the gap of captain.
Mayank made his IPL debut in 2011 and since then has played 100 games in the tournament so far.
Mayank too was happy with his promotion as captain and said that he will guide the team towards lifting the IPL trophy for the first time. He said that the Punjab Kings have always had one intent and it was lifting their maiden IPL trophy.
This year, too, they will work to achieve the same goal.
