Mohammad Kaif comments on English conditions in the Ashes series

Mohammad Kaif

Former India pacer, Mohammad Kaif has recently commented on the English conditions in the ongoing Ashes series.

Meanwhile, England and Australia are going head-to-head against each other in the second Test at Lord’s.

Moreover, Australia is once again dominating this Test after defeating the hosts in the first one and before that defeating India in the WTC final.

Additionally, the Aussie pacers are using the short ball to good effect in the second Test when they dismissed half of England’s side for 47 runs on Day 3.

On the other hand, England then decided to use the same tactic as Australia and it fortunately worked for them as well as they dismissed Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, and Travis Head in quick succession on Day 4.

That’s why Kaif is pretty astonished by the events happening in this series.

As is well known, the English conditions assist swing and seam bowlers and they pretty much do the major damage.

Meanwhile, the Australian conditions are well-known for short-pitched deliveries and the conditions are conducive for it.

Writes Kaif on Twitter,

Is this Ashes in England or Australia? Never imagined the short ball will be so effective in a country where bowlers generally try to hit the top of off stump.

Australia take their lead past 300 runs in the second Test at Lord’s

While dismissing three batters in quick succession, England was pretty happy with their short-lived success.

Additionally, the lead was also well below 300 at that point of the game. But, then things took a different turn.

Allrounder Cameron Green and keeper-batter Alex Carey built up a strong partnership and took Australia’s lead past 300 runs.

As per records, a score of 300+ has been chased successfully only once in the 4th innings of a Test.

Which is why, England will have to bat really deep and hard in order to win and level this series.
