DOMESTIC CRICKET

Mohammad Kaif heaps praise on domestic players

India recently selected Abhimanyu Easwaran as a replacement for skipper Rohit Sharma for the Test series against Bangladesh.

Sharma could not recover quickly from his thumb injury that he sustained last week as a result of which Easwaran made it to the India Test squad.

Easwaran has been knocking on the selection door of India after giving back-to-back performances in domestic cricket.

Former India player, Mohammad Kaif has also praised Easwaran and said that players who have been continuously performing well in the domestic circuit should be picked in India’s squad.

He is against the idea of picking players from the IPL or who are just two-match wonders.

Kaif feels that players who are grinding it out for years in domestic cricket should be given an opportunity when it comes to national selection for India.

Kaif’s suggestion on picking players for the India squad

Says Kaif,

Abhimanyu Easwaran scored back-to-back centuries for India ‘A’ recently. He captains Bengal in the domestic circuit and has been performing there as well. Players like him, who are continuously scoring runs, should get in the team. IPL heroes and two-game wonders shouldn’t be selected for the Indian team on the basis of IPL performances. Players from domestic cricket, who are scoring hundreds for the last four-five years, will get selected for sure.

Easwaran is a resident of Dehradun where he was born and brought up.

He joined Bengal in First-Class cricket and made his debut in 2013 for the state.

Easwaran is now the skipper of Bengal from the 2019-20 season of the Ranji Trophy.

In his first-class career, Easwaran has played 78 matches and the same number in List A cricket. He has by far amassed 9,000 runs overall.

But, he still has to make his debut for India which has not been able to till now.
