Mumbai Indians on the hunt for an Aussie replacement for Richardson

Mumbai Indians

Five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians are currently searching for an Australian replacement for injured Jhye Richardson.

This is because Richardson has undergone his hamstring surgery recently which has ruled him out of the IPL and the 3-match ODI series against India.

He first picked up this injury when playing in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers and the recurrence of the problem ruled him out of the ODI series.

Tweets Richardson after his surgery,

Injuries are a big part of cricket, that’s a fact. Frustrating? Absolutely. But I’m now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work bloody hard to become an even better player than before. One step back, two steps forward. Let’s do this.

At the recent mini-auction in Kochi last year, Richardson was picked up by Mumbai Indians for a hefty sum of INR 1.5 cr.

Last season, Richardson played for the Punjab Kings where he picked up three wickets from three matches.

Mumbai Indians in talks with Sean Abbott and Lance Morris

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are currently in talks with Australians Sean Abbott and Lance Morris.

This year, Morris was awarded the ‘Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year’ award at the Australian Cricket Awards in January.

Additionally, he was also on Australia’s Test team for the BGT against India.

Moreover, Abbott is currently in the ODI squad for Australia that are going to play their first ODI against India today at Mumbai.

Already, Abbott has played for Mumbai Indians in the past where took 17 wickets with an average of 24.94 and an economy rate of 8.52 in 16 IPL games.

Moreover, with the bat, Abbott has scored 49 runs with an average of 8.16 and a strike rate of 120.73.

Therefore, this is going to be a like-for-like replacement for the Mumbai Indians.
