Selectors at Cricket West Indies have named Nicholas Pooran as the next captain of limited-overs cricket.

This decision comes after the retirement of Kieron Pollard from international cricket for West Indies.

Shai Hope will remain as vice-captain for the ODIs.

Pooran has remained Pollard’s deputy since last year.

Pooran was quite happy with the appointment as captain and said that it is his honour to represent his country.

He feels that it is cricket that brings all West Indians together.

He added that he has been learning the game by following the legacy of the greats from the past and will do his very best to bring wins for the team and his loyal supporters.

Pooran will become full-time captain of the West Indies on their upcoming tour of the Netherlands which is later this month.

Jimmy Adams highly backed Pooran’s name as captain in limited-overs cricket.

He said that Pooran was the right choice for limited-overs captaincy due to his vast experience and his likability in the playing group. He added that Pooran has played in many overseas franchises which have helped him improve his game a lot.

This was what led the Cricket West Indies to appoint him as captain without a doubt.
