Pant called overweight by Salman Butt and Danish Kaneria

Rishabh Pant

Recently, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been called overweight by two former Pakistani cricketers.

Firstly, it was Danish Kaneria who stressed that Pant has become overweight and needs to keep a check on his fitness levels.

And now Kaneria’s teammate, Salman Butt has taken a dig at Pant and he also has called him overweight.

Butt also says that Pant is not giving any importance to his fitness standards because of which he is not able to play his innovative shots with ease.

Additionally, Butt has also stated that Pant is not very agile and needs to see his fitness levels in check.

Salman Butt’s comment on Rishabh Pant’s fitness

Rishabh Pant was playing the way he likes to, but he went for something innovative and got out. It was a weird dismissal as the ball hit the bat, pad before rattling the stumps. I always speak on Rishabh Pant’s fitness because the kind of shots he plays and tries to innovate, it would be easier for him to execute those shots if he was fit. I think he is overweight. Definitely, he is overweight and because of that, he is not very agile. He is under the level where he should be, in terms of fitness.

In the first Test, during India’s first innings, Pant came to the crease when India were reeling at 48/3. That’s when he played a quickfire inning of 46 from 45 balls that gave India a lot of momentum.

Afterwards, contributions from Cheteshwar Pujara, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Shreyas Iyer helped India cross the 400-run mark.

India are now in a commanding position in the first Test and are looking to go 1-0 up in the series.

Even in the second innings, India batted well to give Bangladesh a target of 513 runs to win.
