On Monday, Punjab Kings announced Mayank Agarwal as their team’s captain.

The 31-year-old took over the reins of captaincy from Karnataka teammate KL Rahul.

Rahul was not retained by the franchise as he expressed his wish to play for a new franchise in the next season of the IPL.

Rahul came to the Punjab Kings side in 2020 and led the team.

Mayank is the second-highest run-scorer for Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Mayank is the 13th captain of the Punjab Kings. Yuvraj Singh led the franchise in the inaugural season while George Bailey has captained the Punjab side for the highest number of IPL games that is 35.

But, another franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore are still in the process of selecting their new captain with the IPL just a few days away.

They have three options in front of them in the names of Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik and Faf du Plessis.

Maxwell was the first choice of RCB as captain.

But when Cricket Australia released their schedule of Australia’s tour of Pakistan, RCB were in for a jolt.

Maxwell will be available to the RCB after the 6th of April.

Till then, RCB has the option of either selecting Faf du Plessis or Dinesh Karthik.
