Rahane’s inclusion becomes questionable for Shastri for WTC Final

Ajinkya Rahane - Indian Test Team

Recently, the squad for the WTC Final has been announced by the BCCI which has Ajinkya Rahane in it.

Notably, Rahane has made a comeback to the Test side after a year in the wilderness.

However, cricket experts and fans are enraged alike by this decision of the BCCI as apparently, Rahane is having a great IPL with the Chennai Super Kings.

But, looking at his Test performances, then he has been far from impressive because of which he was axed from the Test squad.

Furthermore, he was also removed from BCCI’s centrally-contracted players’ list as well. However, Rahane did not lose heart and played for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy squads.

Now, he is having the time of his life in the ongoing IPL where he is hitting boundaries at will and scoring runs consistently.

According to fans and experts, Rahane should have been selected based on his Test performances.

Last year, Rahane played for India against South Africa on a tour of the latter in January 2022.

In the Ranji Trophy, he scored only 634 runs with an average of 57.63 in 11 matches.

Meanwhile, former India head coach, Ravi Shastri has also written a bombastic comment for the BCCI.

Writes Shastri,

Best team selected. Well done selectors and team management #WTCFinal2023 #TeamIndia

India to play Australia in the WTC Final at The Oval

On the other hand, Rahane’s return to the Test squad means that Suryakumar Yadav has to make way for him.

Furthermore, SKY was a replacement batter for the injured Shreyas Iyer but failed to capitalize.

Meanwhile, Iyer will not be a part of the WTC because he will be rehabilitating after his shoulder surgery.

India will take on Australia in the WTC final at The Oval from June 7-11.
