India’s former head coach, Ravi Shastri, attributes India’s continued dominance in the ICC Men’s Team Rankings to the perfect blend of youthful talent and seasoned experience within the team. With Rohit Sharma at the helm, India recently surpassed Australia to claim the top spot in the Test rankings, boasting 121 rating points, while Australia follows closely behind with 116 rating points.

The upcoming clash between India and Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London from June 7-12 holds great significance. This will be Australia’s inaugural appearance in the WTC final. Whereas India suffered defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the first edition held in 2021.

During a recent episode of The ICC Review, Shastri commended India’s stability under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. And the guidance provided by head coach Rahul Dravid over the past few years. Shastri’s remarks shed light on the team’s impressive journey to the top of the rankings. Highlighting the consistent performance and seamless transition between senior players and emerging talents.

As the much-anticipated WTC final approaches, all eyes will be on India and Australia as they vie for the coveted title, further solidifying their positions among the cricketing elite.

This is a tribute to their quality: Ravi

“It’s a tribute to their consistency, their fitness. And the way they’ve worked over the last five or six years to now be hungry and proud of wanting to belong there,”

Shastri said.

“It’s the quality of players. If you look at these players, a lot of these players are at their prime when you look at the Indian Test side. They’re experienced, they’re at that age where they’re battle-hardened, and they’ve traveled around the world. They know what Test cricket is all about. They know what one-day cricket is all about, they know what T20 cricket is all about,”

he further added.
