Royal Challengers Bangalore has announced the retirement of the jersey numbers of Ab de Villiers (17) and Chris Gayle (333). Both players have played an outstanding role for the team in the past, contributing immensely to their success in the league. The team management has also decided to honor their services by inducting them into the RCB Hall of Fame.

The RCB Unbox ceremony will take place on March 26 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where the Hall of Fame ceremony will also be held. Fans have already started booking their tickets for the event, which is expected to be houseful. The team will also unveil their jersey for the upcoming season during the same event.

RCB WILL LOOK TO WIN THEIR 1ST IPL TITLE THIS YEAR

Last year, the announcement of the induction of Ab de Villiers and Chris Gayle into the Hall of Fame was followed by a special message from former skipper Virat Kohli, expressing gratitude for their immense contributions to the franchise.

“AB has truly changed the game of cricket with his innovation, brilliance, and sportsmanship which truly defines the RCB Play Bold philosophy. It’s truly special for me to be doing this for both of you. We saw videos of how you have changed the way the IPL has been played over the years. Two people who have had a huge impact in IPL being where it is today; and RCB being where it is today,”

Virat Kohli said.

It is worth mentioning that de Villiers joined Bangalore in 2011. AB played 156 matches, scoring 4491 runs for the team. On the other hand, Gayle was initially not selected in the 2011 IPL mega auction but later joined RCB during the season. He played for seven years with the franchise. Gayle scored 3163 runs with a personal best of 175*. It still stands as the highest score by a player in IPL history.
