Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant made yet another record for himself in the first test match against Bangladesh.
The first test match between India and Bangladesh began on Wednesday, 14th December 2022. India chose to bat first. The openers started off well but fell in quick succession. Post that, Virat Kohli lost his wicket to an excellent delivery.
However, Rishabh Pant and Pujara held the innings strong and built a humongous partnership. Pant scored a crucial 46 off 45 deliveries. During his stay at the crease, Rishabh hit 2 sixes. The sixes led to a unique record made by the wicket-keeper.
Rishabh Pant joins Rohit Sharma in an elite list of test players
During the first innings, Rishabh Pant smashed 2 sixes. By scoring those 2 maximums, Rishabh joined an elite list of test players who have scored 50 sixes in fewer innings of test cricket. Rishabh Pant took 54 innings to achieve this feat. That ranks him third on the list.
The ranking is topped by former Pakistani all-rounder, Shahid Afridi. Afridi took 46 innings to hit 50 sixes. Moreover, Rohit Sharma ranks second on the list with 51 innings. Pant has surely added another feather to his red-ball career.
Rishabh Pant faces a lot of scrutiny over his form in white ball cricket. Pant has failed to step up in major multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Critics went on to question his place on the team. While his stay in the white ball format is in turmoil, his test career seems to be flourishing.
India scored 404 runs in the first innings. Pujara, Pant, Iyer, and Ashwin led India to a comfortable total. The wicket looks good for spinners, and India has fielded 3 full-time spinners in the playing XI. Ashwin will surely be the key to India’s bowling attack.
