The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) jointly revealed the schedule for the upcoming ODI World Cup on Tuesday, June 27. Notably, India’s first match will be against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and the highly anticipated game against Pakistan will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 15.

Following the schedule announcement, India’s captain Rohit Sharma expressed the team’s enthusiasm for thorough preparation and giving their best in the mega tournament. It is noteworthy that the Indian team has been unable to secure an ICC trophy in the past decade. Which places them under significant pressure to succeed this time. However, Rohit recognizes the competitiveness of the tournament, with all teams continuously improving their performance day by day.

Looking forward for October-November: Rohit

“It’s going to be a great experience playing in the World Cup at home. India won here 12 years ago, and I know fans nationwide can’t wait for us to take the field this time. This World Cup is going to be very competitive as the game has become faster and the teams are playing more positively than ever before. All this augurs well for fans worldwide, promising them many thrilling moments. We look forward to preparing well and being at our best this October-November,”

Rohit said.

To prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup, India will embark on a tour to West Indies. Which will consist of a complete series. The ODIs hold great significance for the team as they aim to address certain issues that arose due to the absence of key players caused by recent injuries. With KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer currently unavailable. Sanju Samson is highly likely to be given a chance in the playing XI. And his progress will play a crucial role in shaping India’s roadmap for the mega tournament. The bowlers will also face a test in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
