Rohit Sharma full of praises for Ashwin and Jadeja in India

Indian National Team

In the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India emerged victorious by 2-1 as the 4th Test at Ahmedabad was a draw.

India’s major wreckers-in-chief were Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who helped India out in the first two Tests.

Although the venues kept changing, the spin twins continued their dominance and dismantling Australia’s batting lineup.

Additionally, in the final Test, four players got their tons. These were Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green for Australia and Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli for India.

But, the contributions of Ashwin and Jadeja are what kept India in the driver’s seat and helped them win this Test series.

On Monday, Rohit Sharma was pretty direct with his remarks for Ashwin and Jadeja when asked about the duo’s future.

Additionally, Rohit also showered praises on his frontline spinners and said that they should play for India for a long time.

Says Rohit,

Honestly, if they’ll be around, I don’t know, I’ll be around (laughs). But four years is a long time. I mean for the sake of Indian cricket, I hope they stay and they play a lot of cricket for India. Both of them are marathon players for us. They know exactly how to get the job done. Especially in this part of the world, you give them the ball, they get you those breakthroughs. With the bat they get you crucial runs. Very, very important players for us.

Rohit credits Ashwin and Jadeja for placing India at the top in Tests

Furthermore, Rohit also gave huge credit to both Ashwin and Jadeja for helping India become the best side in Test cricket.

In this series, both of them took a total of 47 wickets between them and jointly received the Player of the Series award.

Adding further, Rohit says,

Where we stand today, in terms of how we performed especially in Indian conditions, a lot of credit goes to them. A large part of our success belongs to those two guys. Obviously, you know it’s not just for the period of a few years, it’s over a decade now. So, it’s a long, long time to keep performing in the way these two guys have done for us.

Concluding, Rohit says,

And I can only hope that they continue to play as long as possible because those shoes will definitely be very, very big ones to fill. So, I hope for the sake of Indian cricket they continue as long as they can.
