Rohit Sharma secures multiple records for India after beating South Africa in 2nd T20I

Yesterday India completely dominated South Africa in the 2nd T20I at Guwahati where they secured a 16-run win.

This also makes Rohit Sharma the first Indian captain to create multiple records as India’s skipper. After securing the series 2-0, Sharma has now broken several records both as a player and captain for Team India.

The first of these is that India have finally beaten South Africa for the first time in a bilateral series. Earlier, in 2015, India lost 2-0 against South Africa and then tied the series 1-1 and 2-2 in 2019 and 2022.

The second record that Rohit now holds as captain is that India have 10 bilateral series wins. Rohit & Co. have beaten the likes of New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, England & Australia.

India will now hope to whitewash South Africa at Indore tomorrow to script a 3-0 historical whitewash over the visitors.

As a player, Rohit recorded his 400th T20I appearance for India.

If we take a look at Rohit’s career in 2022, we see that he has scored 540 runs in 22 games with an average of 27.00. He is also the first Indian skipper to score 500 T20I runs in a calendar year.

In the second T20I, India scored a massive total of 237/3 in their 20 overs to which South Africa could only amass 221/3 and lost the game by 16 runs because of which India could steal a historic series win over the proteas.

Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli scored the major bulk of runs for India while David Miller smashed a century.

India now just have to keep nerves of steel and continue with their aggressive approach in T20Is when they go out to secure a 3-0 win over the visitors tomorrow.
