Saba Karim defends Kohli and says that he is not playing for records

Virat Kohli played a superb inning against Sri Lanka in yesterday’s first ODI at Guwahati.

He made 113 runs from 87 balls and recorded his second century after hitting a ton against Bangladesh in 2022.

Now, Kohli has around 45 ODI tons to his name and is just four away from Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 ODI centuries.

Against Bangladesh, Kohli scored his 72nd international hundred in the last ODI that India played in the year 2022.

Since 2008, Kohli has been batting and breaking records for India on a consistent basis. He has several records to his name and was even the No.1 batter across all formats for India.

And just like Tendulkar, Kohli became the ambassador of Indian cricket all over the world. Because of this, he has also come under the radar of critics.

Many critics say that Kohli is playing cricket just to break records and is not serious about making India win major tournaments.

Saba Karim defends Kohli and says that Sachin will feel proud if Kohli breaks his record

Former cricketer, Saba Karim has now come to the defense of Kohli and said that nothing will make Sachin happier than to see Kohli break his record in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar would be the happiest if Virat Kohli broke his record of scoring the most ODI centuries. With the kind of form that he is in, I think he is going to break that record very soon.

Adds Karim,

I don’t think Kohli is playing for records at the moment. He aims to win the World Cup for Team India and is completely focused on that.

The 50-over World Cup is to start soon in the months of Oct-Nov in India and Kohli will have a huge role to play to make sure that India lifts the cup yet again after 1983 and 2011.
