Sachin Tendulkar backs Shami as Bumrah’s replacement

Bumrah

Sachin Tendulkar expressed his confidence on India’s depth and the balance it has in its squad. He believes, that it will help them to advance towards the T-20 WC semifinals. However, the vulnerable death over performances can be an issue, according to him. Jasprit Bumrah being out due to injury, the management is constantly searching a better replacement in his place in the slog overs. Tendulkar, in one of his interview, said that Mohammed Shami will be the right choice in Bumrah’s absence.

Tendulkar said,

“Shami is good. He is Bumrah’s correct replacement. If I look at Shami… he is a good strike bowler, has been around for a long time. He has the experience of having played big matches. He is someone I have enjoyed watching bowl. He is possibly the one (to fill Bumrah’s role), (though) I don’t want to comment on the playing XI.”

Shami hasn’t been a part of the T20I scheme for 11 months. However, his performance against Australia in the warm up game on 17th will definitely please him a lot. He came to bowl in the laat over where Australia needed 10 runs to win. Shami however bagged three wickets to seal the game by 6 runs.

Tendulkar added,

“Without any doubt, we will need to have good starts whether be it batting or bowling, in between we got to pick wickets, and finish well. Bowling in the death overs will be critical.”

Big grounds of Australia will demand athleticism

Tendulkar however, stressed on the importance of ability to throw as it will be big grounds.

He said,

“I don’t know how big the boundary lines are going to be. But for longish boundary lines (usually on grounds in Australia), athleticism and throwing ability is going to matter a lot. To be able to throw hard and get those important run outs can actually change the game.”

Surya has batted beautifully: Sachin Tendulkar

India is mainly depends on the batting strength to perform nicely in the tournament. The line-up however, is much better than the one that went to UAE for the 2021 World Cup. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya are definitely seasoned players. But the rise of Suryakumar Yadav in the last 11 months is huge plus point for India. Therefore, the expectations are naturally sky-high from Yadav.

In this case, Tendulkar said,

“It is good to have expectations, it means you have done well and people believe in you. Surya has batted beautifully, there was a stage when he was looking to cement his spot in the team. He is well past that stage now. He is at the world stage now to make a big statement. It gives you confidence knowing that people have appreciated the way he has batted. And people expect something special from him, which clearly gets reflected on the field in the way he carries himself. He is a confident man now.”
