The Border Gavaskar Trophy is just breathing over the shoulders; it will start on and from 9th February. . And as expected, all the eyes are nowhere, but on former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli has been struggling a lot for runs in the red ball format in the last two years. However, Sanjay Bangar, former Indian cricketer expects Kohli to wake up in the coming series.

The Border Gavaskar trophy series will play a crucial role in bagging World Test Championship points. Henceforth, both teams will give their best to it, and comments naturally will fill the air. Other than ‘neutral’ pitches, the name Virat Kohli will indeed play a vital role. The former Indian captain has 7 centuries with 1682 runs against Australia. Bangar feels, that this season will not upset Kohli too.

Sanjay Bangar in a show at Star Sports said,

“He loves to play against Australia. He loves to have that banter against the Australian players and he raises his game, and Test cricket is a format that brings the best out of Virat Kohli as well. Yes, the last two-and-a-half years haven’t been as productive by his standards.

“So he would want to continue the freshness of approach that he has enjoyed in the T20 and ODI formats and now he would look to transform that into Test cricket as well. So he is going to make a big bang and create an impact in this series as well.’

He has already made great strides in overcoming the lean patch: Bangar

Kohli drew the end line to his century drought against Afghanistan, in white-ball cricket in India’s final match of Men’s T-20, 2022. However, his last test century came against Bangladesh in the 22019s Pink Ball Test at Eden Gardens. Bangar hopes Kohli to switch on his form back in the Tests too, against Australia.

Bangar added,

“All the indications are in that direction because he has already made great strides in overcoming the lean patch, whatever lean patch you may have to call because of the level of cricket that he has played. Virat Kohli finding back his Test cricket form and winning the series for Team India. I think that’s the headline I want to hear at the end of the series.”
