Sehwag slams Umran Malik for repeating mistakes again and again

Umran Malik

Commenting on Malik’s performance, former India opener Virender Sehwag criticized the bowler for his inconsistent line and length. Sehwag also noted that with someone like Dale Steyn, a bowling legend, serving as the team’s coach, such mistakes should have been rectified by now.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put an end to their disappointing run in the Indian Premier League 2023 after a loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in match number 69. Despite having nothing to play for, fans expected SRH to demonstrate more determination.

In the first innings, SRH managed to post a respectable total of 200/5. However, their bowling lacked effectiveness, allowing MI to chase down the target with 8 wickets and 18 overs to spare.

Having lost the toss, SRH was sent in to bat first. The inclusion of Umran Malik in the XI was a decision made by the Markram-led side, despite the fast bowler’s poor form in the previous seven matches. Unfortunately, Malik’s struggles continued, conceding 41 runs in the three overs he bowled.

Umran should use Steyn’s input: Sehwag

“If it were a South African pacer, I could’ve understood that he wouldn’t want to bowl too full. But Umran Malik… the problem is that he keeps shuffling his length. He doesn’t have the experience yet. He might have worked a lot with Dale Steyn, but he hasn’t really got the idea of his length. Despite working with Steyn for so long and learning under him, he’s doing the same mistakes that he did last year,”

Sehwag said.

Virender Sehwag expressed his concern about the lackluster bowling performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He emphasized the importance of taking wickets as the only option for defending a total of 200 against Mumbai Indians. However, SRH’s bowlers failed to contain the runs and had a dismal outing. In the IPL 2023, the Jammu-born pacer finished with just five wickets from eight matches.
