Sehwag wants CSK’s bowlers to bowl well if they don’t want to lose Dhoni

Former India cricketer, Virender Sehwag has reminded Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers about their skipper MS Dhoni’s warning.

Ever since the 16th season started, then CSK bowlers have been under the pump as they have given many wides and no-balls against different oppositions.

Also, their seam attack options are very thin at the moment because of injuries to Deepak Chahar, Ben Stokes, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary, and Sisanda Magala.

Therefore, CSK has to contend with whatever resources they have at the moment, but the accuracy and discipline of the rest of the bowlers have been lackluster.

Even in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore yesterday, they had to fight very hard to win the game by 8 runs.

In the first innings, CSK scored 226 runs on the board and asked RCB to chase 227 runs from 20 overs.

That’s why earlier this month, MSD issued a warning for his bowlers that if they don’t control their wides and no-balls, they will play under a new skipper next season.

Said Dhoni,

They’ll have to bowl no no-balls and fewer wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they’ll be playing under a new captain.

Furthermore, in the game against Lucknow Super Giants, CSK bowled 13 wides. Although the number was slightly less in the RCB game, this number still needs to come down a bit more if the franchise wants to avoid slow over-rate offenses.

If it will not be able to do so, then Dhoni will face suspension from the forthcoming games for CSK.

Sehwag asks CSK’s bowlers to control their line and length

Says Sehwag for CSK and Dhoni,

Dhoni was not looking happy because he has mentioned it before that he wants the bowlers to reduce the number of no-balls and wides. CSK had bowled two-three overs of extras and against RCB, they bowled another extra over. It shouldn’t go to a stage where Dhoni gets banned and CSK has to take the field without their captain.

Adding further, he says,

With the kind of knee injury he has, it appears he might play only a handful of matches more anyway. He is constantly pushing himself but if his bowlers are bowling so many wides and no-balls, then Dhoni will have to take rest.

Moreover, CSK’s Tushar Deshpande has given the most extras for his team alongside Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana.

Says Sehwag,

It is especially disheartening to see the spinners bowl wides. These are things under your control.

Furthermore, Sehwag has also termed CSK’s bowling attack as ‘very weak’ and stated that if this issue is not resolved quickly, then it will only pose more challenges for the team.

I’m saying from Day 1 that CSK’s bowling is weak. They need to work on that department. But what more can they do? They will have to use whatever resources they have this season. The bowlers have to be more accurate. If you look at their performance against RCB, they have bowled 30-35 dot balls so they didn’t let RCB score a run in six overs. Despite that, they ended up conceding 218 because they leaked far too many sixes and fours.
