Former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson has sent out a piece of advice for the Indian opener under fire, KL Rahul.

KL Rahul’s form is on the decline post his return to international cricket. Rahul was ruled out for a while owing to a groin injury. He went overseas for the surgery and completed his rehab at NCA in Bangalore. However, upon his return, KL looked uncomfortable. People noticed a drop in his confidence. The KL who was known for his destructive yet classy hitting power suddenly went on the back foot.

KL Rahul adopted a defensive approach at the start of the innings. He stays in his crease and tries to defend the initial overs. Fans and critics believe that this change in approach is against KL’s natural style and is the main reason behind his early dismissals. Shane Watson has joined the mass to send out a piece of advice to the opener regarding his approach.

“KL Rahul is at his best when he’s just taking the game on,” Shane Watson

Former Australian cricketer, Shane Watson has a bit of advice to offer to Indian opener, KL Rahul. He believes that KL Rahul should drop his defensive approach and just needs to take the bowlers on from ball one. That works best for him.

“The thing I’d say, just specifically to KL Rahul – he’s at his best when he’s just taking the game on. Not trying to just rotate strike or being a bit more defensive,”

Moreover, he added that KL is getting dismissed because his defensive mind is getting him exposed to the bowlers. Rahul has shots in his book and has the ability to destroy the opposition’s bowling lineup.

“When he’s batting purely on instinct and putting a lot of pressure on the bowler because he’s just got every shot in the book – wherever they bowl it, he can just hit that ball for a six or a boundary. When KL’s a little bit more defensive in his mind, that’s when, like all batters, you’re a lot more susceptible to being exposed,”
