Sheldon Jackson finds inspiration in Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni

Ranji Trophy

Despite his impressive performances in List-A cricket, Sheldon Jackson has yet to receive a national call-up, which has been a major disappointment for the 36-year-old batsman. Another setback came when he was not selected for the West Zone’s Duleep Trophy squad. However, Jackson finds motivation in the examples set by renowned Indian cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik. He admires how Dhoni and Karthik maintain their fitness even in the later stages of their careers, and this inspires him. In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Jackson highlighted Karthik’s unwavering commitment to the game.

Sheldon said:

“I get inspired when I see Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni. I have witnessed all of Karthik’s transformation. At this point of my career, he is my greatest inspiration and motivator.”

I’m good enough: Sheldon Jackson

Jackson chose not to comment on his omission from the West Zone’s Duleep Trophy squad, stating that he holds the selectors solely accountable for their decision.

“I am not going to comment on anyone’s selection. I can only talk about myself. I’ll never call a selector and inquire as to why I wasn’t chosen,”

Jackson continued.

In contrast, Jackson expressed confidence in realizing his aspirations in the times ahead. While his performance in limited-overs cricket may not be exceptional, he has showcased his skills and excelled in the longer format of the game, particularly in red-ball cricket.

“If I wasn’t good enough, I wouldn’t have played 90+ games with an average close to 50,”

Jackson stated.

Since his debut for Saurashtra in 2011, Sheldon Jackson has made significant progress. He is on the verge of reaching the milestone of 100 first-class matches, having played 90 matches so far. In these matches, he has accumulated an impressive total of 6608 runs, which includes 20 centuries and 36 half-centuries. Additionally, Jackson has also showcased his skills in List-A cricket, with 77 appearances and a noteworthy total of 2643 runs at an average of 38.30.
