Punjab Kings bid successfully for India’s star opener, Shikhar Dhawan on the first day of the Mega Auctions.
They secured his services for INR 8.25 crore. Dhawan had set his base price for INR 2 crores.
Dhawan was one of the marquee players in this year’s Mega Auctions.
He and Kagiso Rabada were released before the Mega Auctions whereby Punjab Kings quickly picked them up for the next IPL season.
KL Rahul too was released by the Punjab Kings after which Lucknow Super Giants snapped him up for INR 17 crores.
Reports were doing the rounds that Mayank Agrawal will succeed KL Rahul as Punjab’s next captain.
But after Dhawan’s entry into the camp, new reports have stated that Shikhar Dhawan will most likely lead the Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.
Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta did not attend the Auctions due to personal reasons.
But she was happy with the selection of Shikhar Dhawan into their camp.
She further said that she always wanted a player like him in their franchise.
Dhawan is a fine veteran of the league and has played 194 games overall, amassing 5784 runs with an average of 34.84. He also has an excellent strike rate of 126.36.
He has 44 half-centuries and 2 tons so far in the IPL.
