Shreyas Iyer overtakes Suryakumar Yadav in runs tally

India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is certainly having a purple patch of form this year.

He is now the highest run-scorer for India this year after pipping fellow teammate Suryakumar Yadav in the runs tally.

Iyer is currently involved in the Test series against Bangladesh where is unbeaten on 82 runs.

His innings is studded with 10 boundaries and he has been in sensational form for India.

Especially in the 50-over format, Iyer has scored 724 runs in 17 games including a ton against Bangladesh as well.

However, Iyer did not get to play any game in the T20 World Cup this year but he has enjoyed opportunities apart from it.

He now has 463 runs in 17 games with a big strike rate of 141.15 in T20Is.

And now with his not-out 82 runs, Iyer has scored 302 runs in 6 Test innings and is now selected over the likes of Ajinkya Rahane in the Test squad.

List of Highest Run-Getters for India this year

Across all formats this year, Shreyas has scored 1489 runs in 38 matches and is India’s leading run-getter.

On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has 1424 runs in 43 games and a high score of 117.

Virat Kohli is third on this list as he has 1304 runs in 39 matches this year.

In the ongoing Test match, Pujara and Iyer powered India to 278/6 on the first day of the match.

They both maintained a strong partnership of 149 runs in which Pujara hit 90 runs while Shreyas made 82*.

Meanwhile, Axar Patel was dismissed on the last ball of the day as he was trapped lbw by Mehidy Hasan.

Taijul Islam has been Bangladesh’s successful bowler on day 1 as he has 3 wickets for 84 runs.
