Kolkata Knight Riders, ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, have announced Shreyas Iyer as their skipper.

Iyer went at a price of INR 12.25 crores to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans too participated in the bidding of Iyer but Kolkata were able to out-bid both of them to have the middle-order batsman.

Venky Mysore, CEO and MD of KKR, was happy to have acquired Shreyas for their team.

Even before the auctions, KKR had sights for Shreyas as they wanted a proper leader to lead their team.

Shreyas himself was happy to have joined KKR and looks forward to having an excellent time with the team.

He also said that Kolkata and Eden Gardens have a rich history in cricket and he would like to add more to this history as well.

Brendon McCullum has been particularly impressed with Iyer’s style of batting and he feels that he has a very bright future ahead of him.

He also said that it would be nice working with Shreyas from close quarters and shape him up as a better leader for the future.

Shreyas has played 87 IPL games so far and was the captain of the Delhi Capitals and led the team to their maiden IPL final in 2020.

He has so far made 2375 runs with an average of 123.95.
