Young Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw had to face yet another rejection as he was sidelined by the selectors for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
The BCCI has announced its white-ball squad for the upcoming bilateral series with Sri Lanka. The outgoing selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, announced two different teams for the T20s and the ODI series. Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the shorter format as the senior duo of Rohit and Virat will take a rest.
However, all the senior members of the team will return for the ODI series. The BCCI wants the regular players to focus more on the one-day internationals as the 2023 ODI World Cup approaches. Further, Shikhar Dhawan faced the axe due to unknown reasons. Rishabh Pant is also absent from both squads due to a niggle, according to reports.
Prithvi Shaw sidelined yet again
Mumbai star, Prithvi Shaw could have hoped for a seat in the final 15-member squad owing to his recent performances in the domestic circuit. However, selectors chose to ignore him, as he was not considered for either of the two series. To express his dissent wideout in open, Prithvi Shaw uploaded a cryptic Instagram story. The story expressed sad poetry.
Fans were quick to point out that the opener is deeply hurt by the snub. The Twitter users came out in Prithvi Shaw’s support and urged the latter to stay strong.
Ironically, Prithvi Shaw has been consistently performing in domestic cricket for his home city. He scored over 283 runs playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Moreover, he has been consistently performing in domestic tournaments as well. Hence, Shaw’s disappointment is fairly justified.
The white ball series between India and Sri Lanka will begin on 3rd January 2023. Sri Lanka will visit India for a bilateral series of 3 T20s and as many one-day internationals.
