Simon Cook to be Kent’s director of cricket from next month

Simon Cook replaces Paul Downton, who is taking retirement to take the director position in Kent.

,Kent chairman Simon Philip said: “Simon Cook was the outstanding candidate throughout the very rigorous selection process.

“He provided a compelling and clear vision of how he wants the club to move forward from the pathway to the First XI, allied to a very strong view of the brand of cricket that he wants the club to play. His existing knowledge as player and coach will prove invaluable in delivering his vision.

“I’m sure that all members and supporters will welcome Simon to his new role.”

England managing director Rob Key wrote on social media:

“Good luck Simon Cook. One of the great lads.”

Cook was previously part of Kent’s bowling attack in the year 2005. He has played for Kent in more than 200 matches in the seven years. He has also won two trophies with the Kent team. Cook again joined the team in the year of 2019. However, in 2019 it was for the role of bowling coach in the Kent team. He was also a head coach of the team during the 2022 One Day cup.
