South Africa Cricket call in Dwaine Pretorius’ replacement

Reece Topley

Dwaine Pretorius has been completely ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a fractured thumb.

Marco Jansen has successfully replaced Pretorius in South Africa’s 15-man squad.

Having played only one T20 game for the Proteas, Jansen will have to fill the big void left behind by Pretorius.

Lizaad Williams is the new reserve player replacement for Marco Jansen in the squad.

Last year, Pretorius was in good form for South Africa with both bat and ball in the T20 World Cup.

Additionally, he was the side’s joint-highest wicket-taker with nine scalps and the best bowling average of 11.22.

South Africa will start their T20 World Cup campaign on the 24th of October against the winner of Qualifier B1 at Hobart.

Before this, they have two warm-up games against New Zealand and Bangladesh on the 17th and 19th of October respectively.

South Africa’s Updated Squad after Dwaine Pretorius’ injury:

Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock, Henrich Klaasen, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Rillee Rossouw, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen.

Standby Players: Bjorn Fortuin, Lizaad Williams, Andile Phehlukwayo
