Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya claims 50 wickets in just 7 Tests

Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka’s spin master, Prabath Jayasuriya has claimed a new Test record for himself. He is now the fastest bowler to claim 50 wickets in just 7 Test matches.

Before him, it was former West Indies player, Alf Valentine who held the record for the past 71 years. But, now Jayasuriya has broken it and is now behind Australia’s Charlie Turner who claimed his 50 in just 6 Tests.

Notably, Turner claimed this record 135 years back and it still hasn’t been broken by any other bowler so far in Tests.

Jayasuriya’s 50th Test wicket was Ireland’s Paul Stirling as he dismissed him on the final day of the second Test.

Along with Jayasuriya, the other record holders are Vernon Philander of South Africa and former England player, Tom Richardson.

Sri Lanka needs five wickets to win the second Galle Test against Ireland

Meanwhile, in the second Test, there were two double centurions in Nishan Madushka and Kusal Mendis who took the hosts to a huge score of 704 in the second innings.

They also got a hefty lead of 212 runs in the middle and put major pressure on the visitors.

Therefore, it is now up to Ireland to put up a good showing against the hosts and they need a solid partnership to get going in the second Test against the hosts.

Unfortunately, their five batters are already back in the hut and they are James McCollum, Peter Moor, Paul Stirling, Lorcan Tucker, and Curtis Campher.

Thus, things are not on the bright side for the visitors at the moment and the Test match is already nearing its end.

On the other hand, Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector will play a big role in ensuring that Ireland has a fighting chance in this Test match against Sri Lanka.

Both these batters have the ability to change things for their team and will look to put up some good performances.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka only needs five wickets to win this Test match and wrap up the series against Ireland.
