Srikanth questions ‘impact players’ in the ODI side; wants this player in the playing 11

Suryakumar Yadav

Despite his supreme white-ball form, Suryakumar Yadav is yet to find a place in the playing XI for India in the ODIs. He has been not just the best T20 batter for India but has been dominating the whole world. But with Shreyas Iyer locked at 4 and KL Rahul slotted at 5, it is difficult for Surya to get a chance in the middle order.

Former India chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth felt that Suryakumar is very unlucky not to be a part of the playing 11. He did not agree with the management’s idea of benching the Mumbai batter.

I feel bad for you my friend: Srikanth

“And Surya, I’m so sorry, I feel bad for you my friend. Suryakumar Yadav not there in the team? You look at the top five and ask, who are the impact players there? Who are the guys who can take the game away from the opposition?”

the 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer said on Star Sports.

He was also surprised not to see Washington Sundar in the playing 11 as he had been in fine touch in the last 2 series. He also had improved his batting against pace bowling and the ability to play big shots.

I dont know why is he not playing: Srikanth

“I don’t know why Washington Sundar is not playing. I would have picked three spinners, two pacers with Hardik Pandya as another option. That is why I keep saying that we need to develop more batting all-rounders, that is where India are missing out,”

he added.
