ODI WORLD CUP

Srikkanth predicts Jadeja to emulate Yuvraj Singh’s World Cup heroics

Ravindra Jadeja

The ICC and BCCI made a joint announcement in Mumbai, revealing the schedule for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. This will be India’s first exclusive hosting of the tournament. In 2011, India won the World Cup when they last hosted it, led by MS Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh played a significant role in that victory, earning the Player of the Tournament award for his 362 runs and 15 wickets. According to Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel can also contribute similarly in the upcoming World Cup as India aims to end their decade-long ICC trophy drought.

“In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play. We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we have Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup. I believe Jadeja, the Axar Patels… these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup,”

Srikkanth said.

Jadeja has been a valuable player for India across all formats for many years. In 174 ODIs, he has scored 2526 runs with 13 fifties and taken 191 wickets at an average of 37.39.

Jadeja helped India win Champions Trophy 2013 with his all round skills

Jadeja played a crucial role in India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. He was named Player of the Match in the final for his contributions with bat and ball. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 33 runs and took 2 wickets. He was also the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 wickets. In the upcoming World Cup, he will be expected to replicate his performance. As for Axar Patel, although he didn’t play in the 2015 World Cup, his impressive performance in IPL 2023 for Delhi Capitals makes him a strong contender for the World Cup selection.
