Star Indian batter to miss the New Zealand series due to injury

India National Team

India suffered a huge setback ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand. Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the series due to a back injury. Shreyas immediately reported the stiff back to the management immediately after the third ODI.

The medical staff decided to take Shreyas to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for precautionary measures. Shreyas is however likely to rejoin the test squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Recent Form

This is a huge blow for India considering the form of Shreyas Iyer in the white ball format. He has been in phenomenal touch and is playing a crucial role for India at number 4. Back injuries usually take time to heal. India will be hoping that the batter gets fit before the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He also has been excellent for India in test matches scoring crucial runs for India in difficult times. Iyer has been the second-highest run scorer for India in ODIs in 2022 scoring 818 at an average of 51.12 and a strike rate of 92.95.

Rajat Patidar has been named as the replacement for Shreyas Iyer. The Madhya Pradesh batter has scored 1648 runs in 51 List A games at an average of 34.33 and strike rate of 97.45. He is an excellent player against spin and has been impressive since the last season of the IPL.
