Starc Praises Ajinkya Rahane’s Resilient 89 in WTC Final

Ajinkya Rahane - Indian Test Team

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc praised Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane for his impressive innings of 89 in the World Test Championship final at The Oval in London. Rahane’s resilient knock helped India avoid the follow-on and reach a total of 296 in the first innings, despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Fans and former cricketers commended Rahane for his adaptability and composed approach. Despite facing fierce bowling from the Australian pacers and sustaining body blows, Rahane remained unfazed and took on the challenge. Starc acknowledged that Australia was aware of Rahane’s capabilities and noted that it took an exceptional catch to dismiss him.

It took a special catch to get Rahane out: Starc

“He played really well. We know Jinks [Ajinkya Rahane] can play innings like that; we’ve seen it through series before. He came in at a tough time to bat and managed to, along with [Shardul] Thakur as well, to absorb some pressure there and build an innings and played really nicely. So, it took a special catch to get him out and certainly that partnership was one that sort of prolonged our bowling innings I guess but I think they both played pretty well,

Starc said.

“Jinx probably was a little bit more you know. He waited for the bad ball and built his innings and then built a nice partnership. So, we know what a good player he is. And he’s done in the past and hopefully we can get him out early in the second innings,”

Starc further added.

After a string of disappointing performances in Test cricket, Ajinkya Rahane was omitted from the Indian squad in January of the previous year. However, the 35-year-old batsman made a strong comeback by delivering outstanding performances in domestic cricket. Moreover, he played a crucial role in helping the Chennai Super Kings secure victory in the 2023 IPL. Contributing significantly to their title-winning campaign.
