‘Such a poor decision’: Yuvraj Singh gets angry at TV umpire after Pooja Vastrakar given a controversial run-out

Pooja Vastrakar

In the India-Sri Lanka match on Saturday, things took an ugly turn when Pooja Vastrakar was given the wrong decision by the third umpire.

Things started in the penultimate over when Vastrakar hit the ball to take a single but then saw a chance to steal a second run. But, the Sri Lankan fielder threw the ball to the keeper who then dismissed the bails.

The TV umpire then looked at the run-out from all angles after which he adjudged Vastrakar out.

Pooja had reached the crease on time before the bails were uprooted.

Had the throw been direct, Vastrakar would not have made it in time to reach the other end.

The decision left everyone shell-shocked even Vastrakar.

Vastrakar stood on the crease for a long time before she made the long walk back to the pavilion. After this debacle, fans and senior cricketers alike took to social media to post about this horrific event.

Yuvraj Singh gave a piece of his mind to the TV umpire for giving the wrong decision to Vastrakar.

Yuvraj said on his Twitter handle,

That is such a poor decision by the third umpire! Should have given Pooja Vastrakar benefit of doubt!!

Vastrakar made 1 from 2 balls and was India’s sixth wicket in the penultimate over.

India was in a fix right at the start when Sri Lanka grabbed the wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues lifted India back up. Kaur scored 33 while Rodrigues was the top scorer for India with 76 from 53 balls and they stitched a 92-run partnership for the third wicket.

India managed 150/6 in their 20 overs after which they bowled out Sri Lanka for 109.
