Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar made a bold statement on India’s young speedster, Umran Malik after his impressive show in the ODIs.
Umran Malik is India’s new favorite child. Ever since his debut in the IPL, fans have gone gaga over the youngster’s pace. Umran Malik bowled consistently at a pace of over 145 kmph in IPL. He even touched a mark of 155 kmph. People all over the world have been waiting to see Umran in blue colors.
Finally, the day arrived when Umran made his national debut in the series against New Zealand. Malik impressed everyone in the first game itself. He picked up 2 crucial wickets. Moreover, he bowled at a consistent pace as well. Further, he looked in control with his line and lengths.
Sunil Gavaskar ranks Umran Malik highly
In a post-match show after the second ODI between India and Bangladesh, Sunil Gavaskar made a strong remark about Umran Malik. He said that Umran is the one guy he is most excited to see play for India after Sachin Tendulkar.
“One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik,”
Umran Malik has been highly impressive since his debut. However, he is becoming too predictable at the end overs. To this, Umran stated that he is working on developing new deliveries and variations.
“I am working on developing new deliveries. Like, I am working on slowers and yorkers for T20s. Also, I am working very well on pitching good-length and hard-length balls. I am enjoying a lot by working alongside the coaches and feels really good,”
“When I am playing for India, it is a national duty, and have to do well. If I do well, will stay here in the team for long. I just want to play long for India and perform well,”
India lost the ODI series against Bangladesh after losing 2 close encounters. The final ODI will commence on Saturday with India’s pride at stake.
