India legend, Sunil Gavaskar has picked his top performer of the year 2022.

2022 has been a topsy-turvy one for Team India as they faced wins and losses in equal measure.

While the first half of the year was a good one for the team, the middle of the year saw them losing in major tournaments.

Firstly, they had a humiliating exit in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup after which they crashed out of the semifinals of the T20 World Cup.

But, now they have solidified their chances of playing in the finals of the World Test Championship as they won both their Tests against Bangladesh.

Recently, India legend and former skipper, Sunil Gavaskar was asked to pick his top performer of 2022 and he has taken the name of Ishan Kishan.

Gavaskar feels that Kishan has really performed well this year with his 210 against Bangladesh during the third ODI.

Gavaskar’s comment on picking Ishan Kishan as the top performer

Gavaskar has also stated that had Kishan stayed on for long at the crease, he would also have gotten a triple hundred which is a first in ODI history.

Says Gavaskar,

When we see the younger players coming through, it means there is hope for the future. Ishan Kishan probably stands out with his double hundred, which was in a 50-overs game and that’s a fantastic achievement. He got it so easily. And he got it in what 35th or 36th over. If he had carried on he would have got the first ever triple hundred in ODIs. It will happen with the way he is batting. That is a huge plus as India is concerned. He has this terrific ability to play all around the ground. His square cut…he is also like Rishabh Pant who like to pepper the on side. But a 200 is an amazing achievement and at such a young age. So I think sky’s the limit as far as the white-ball cricket is concerned.

Kishan breaks records after scoring a double ton against Bangladesh in the third ODI

In reaching his double ton, Kishan broke multiple records and is now the fourth Indian batter to score a double ton after Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virendra Sehwag.

India will take on Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series from 3rd January and that will be followed by three ODIs.
