Sunil Gavaskar rejects views on Rahane getting chance in ODI cricket

Ajinkya Rahane - Indian Test Team

Ajinkya Rahane performing good in the IPL earned him a place in the Indian Test team. However, will this time he get a chance in India’s one-day team? The one day World Cup is ahead. Can Rahane manage a place for India’s middle order? Sunil Gavaskar, however, feels that getting a chance in the Test team does not mean getting a chance in the one-day team. Gavaskar thinks, it is difficult for Rahane to get a chance in the 50-over team.

Gavaskar told a broadcasting channel,

“Rahane has been playing in India’s Test team for a long time. But in the middle, he was left out. But he has always been my favorite cricketer in red ball cricket. Good to see Rahane back in the Test team. Hope he plays well in the World Test Championship final. But I don’t see him in the one-day team.”

Gavaskar thinks Rahane can’t compete with the available middle order options

Gavaskar also gave the reason why he said this. In the words of the former Indian cricketer,

“Rahane has not played for Indian team in white ball cricket for a long time. And selectors have many options in the middle order in one-day cricket. So it is difficult for Rahane to gate a chance.”

Rahane last played an ODI against South Africa in February 2018. Since then, this batsman has not been seen in the Indian team in the blue jersey.

Rahane is in good form for Chennai Super Kings in this IPL. He scored 224 runs at 189 strike rate in 7 matches. Rahane returned to India’s Test team after playing well in IPL. But Gavaskar feels that it is difficult for Rahane to get a place in the one-day team.
