Former Indian cricketer and “Mr.IPL”, Suresh Raina, hailed the Punjab Kings for bringing in Sam Curran into the team at IPL 2023 auctions.

IPL 2023 auction was dominated by overseas all-rounders. Three overseas all-rounders were sold for over INR 16 Cr. England youngster, Sam Curran created history at the recently concluded auction table. Punjab Kings bought Sam for a record breaking figure of INR 18.25 Cr. Thus, he became the most expensive player ever in the 16 year long history of the Indian Premier League.

The cricketing world is shocked and surprised at the same time. However, former CSK veteran, Suresh Raina came out to speak about Sam Curran’s acquisition. He hailed Punjab Kings for fighting hard for the all-rounder and feels that he will be a perfect addition to the franchise.

“Sam Curran will be a good addition to the squad,” Suresh Raina

Post the auction, Suresh Raina appeared on the expert panel on Jio Cinema. He spoke openly about Sam Curran’s buyout. Raina said that Sam Curran is a match-winner. Moreover, he is excited to see how Punjab uses the all-rounder to the best of his abilities.

“Absolutely, he played his first IPL for Punjab. Then, he did the Lungi dance and now has to do the Bhangra in Punjab, having Shikhar on the side. Sam Curran tweeted that he is back to where he started his IPL career. It will be a challenge, but I think he is a match-winner, and we’ll have to see how Punjab Kings use him,”

Suresh Raina further claimed that Punjab Kings have elevated their playoff chances by bringing Sam Curran on board. Furthermore, the franchise has a good bowling lineup, and they have filled the missing link by buying Curran.

“They have Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, and Rahul Chahar – they have a good bowling line-up but Sam Curran coming into the team will be a good addition to the squad. Punjab Kings needed a positive change and Sam Curran’s arrival into the team I think has increased their hopes of getting into the playoffs”
