Suryakumar creates unwanted history with first-ball ducks in ODI series

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav’s struggles in the ODI format continue as he fails to make an impact in the ongoing series. Left-arm spinner Ashton dismissed him for a first-ball duck in the series finale held in Chennai on Wednesday. So, SKY was out first ball duck in all three ODIs.

Yadav now holds an unwanted record as the first Indian batter to achieve this feat in all matches of an ODI series. Despite being the World No. 1 T20I batter, Yadav has been unable to translate his form to the 50-over format of the game.

SURYAKUMAR YADAV HASN’T PROVED HIMSELF IN ODIs YET

In the Mumbai and Visakhapatnam ODIs against Mitchell Starc, Suryakumar Yadav was out for a first-ball duck. He fell prey to Starc’s inswingers on both occasions. It’s worth noting that several notable Indian players, including Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Anil Kumble, have also experienced the ignominy of being dismissed for three successive ducks in ODI cricket.

However, the world record for the most consecutive ducks in ODIs is four. And only five batters have achieved this dubious distinction, with Lasith Malinga, Craig White, and Henry Olonga among the list.

In the crucial series decider against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal added to India’s woes in their chase of 270. The left-arm spinner bowled him out after he played back to a delivery that had a speed of 91 kmph. Just one delivery earlier, Virat Kohli got out for 54, providing the Aussies with a glimmer of hope.

Despite Agar being on the verge of a hat-trick in the 36th over, Ravindra Jadeja partnered with Hardik Pandya to prevent the left-arm spinner from achieving the landmark. SKY, who was included in the team as a replacement for the injured Iyer, was pushed down the order to No. 7 instead of his usual position at No. 4.
