Suryakumar Yadav has his say on the challenging Lucknow pitch

Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the match in the 2nd T20 against New Zealand at Lucknow. He received the man of the match award for his patient knock of 26 not out from 31 balls.

It was supposed to be a run fest but it did not turn out to be, as the pitch offered a lot of turn and bounce to the spinners. The batters could not get going from ball one and needed time to adapt to the conditions.

The Blackcaps scored just 99 runs in the 20 overs. It was expected that India would finish the match quickly. The low-scoring game went on till the last over where India scrapped off to a victory to level the series 1-1.

Surya talks about adapting to conditions

“A different version of SKY today. Adapting to the situation was very important when I went into bat. After losing Washy, it was important for someone to take the game till the end,” Suryakumar said at the end of the match.

“We didn’t think it will turn this way in the second innings but it’s important to adapt. We just needed one hit in that over and it was very important to calm our nerves. Before we got the winning runs, he (Hardik) came and told me ‘you are going to finish on this ball’ and that gave me a lot of confidence,” Suryakumar concluded.
