The board meeting of the International Cricket Council will be deciding upon the next President later this week.

The current President of the ICC is New Zealand’s Greg Barclay. Although he is the incumbent President, he can still contest the elections two more times as President.

But, if he decides not to, then BCCI may push in the name of Anurag Thakur as their proposal for ICC President.

Thakur’s name has cropped up a lot of times during BCCI’s internal meetings on the issue. Even Sharad Pawar and N Srinivasan too are eligible candidates for the post as are Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah.

Anurag Thakur cannot hold a position in the BCCI as per the Lodha reforms, because he is a Minister in the Central Government.

But would he be able to maintain the position as ICC President along with being Minister, would have to be seen.

As has been previously said, BCCI would like to keep their candidate as ICC President.

On the other hand, BCCI would not like to change the current setup and relationship that they have with Barclay.

Barclay will also visit India during the IPL either next week or in May.

BCCI will also play a major role in the election process as they are a bigger body.

In the ICC President elections, the candidate who secures two-thirds votes of the 15-member board becomes the winner.
