India is already running behind in the 5-match T20I series that currently stands at 0-2 for them at the moment.

But, there is one player who has proved his mettle at the international level and it is none other than Tilak Varma.

Scoring consistently in both the T20Is, he has made his mark in the shortest format of the game for India.

In the first game, he scored 39 from 22 balls, and in the second one, he scored 51 in 41 balls but the results didn’t end up in India’s wins.

Varma has been a prolific player for both Hyderabad and IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians.

After consistent performances in both spheres, he was eventually picked by the BCCI for this Caribbean tour.

It seems like he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and India’s middle-order woes also seem to be at an end now.

Salam Bayash talks about Varma’s delight after India selection

Meanwhile, Varma’s childhood coach, Salam Bayash has recalled a conversation that he had with his student after the latter’s India call-up.

He has stated that he was quite happy with his ward’s selection in India’s T20I squad against the West Indies.

Says Bayash,

He belongs to a very humble background and his family has taught him to give respect to the teacher. Talking about him, he too is a very humble kid. Main mehnat kraya, vo mehnat kiya, dene wala to upar wala hi hai. I’m very happy for him. Every coach wants to see his student playing for the country and my wish got fulfilled.

Adding further, he says,

The moment he got selected for the Indian team, he called me up on video call. I was driving at that point of time. But he kept on calling and finally I parked my vehicle and picked his call. He then broke the news to me that he was selected in the Indian team. Sir mera Indian team mein naam agya [Sir, I have received India team call-up]. He was delighted and so was I. I always believed that he is destined to be a big player and we just kept working hard towards this.

Bayash told Varma to keep grabbing knowledge from Sachin Tendulkar

Furthermore, Salam Bayash is a great Sachin Tendulkar fan and he wanted his student to learn as much from the ‘Master Blaster’ as possible.

Additionally, Mumbai Indians have greatly benefitted after signing up Varma in their franchise.

He has scored 740 runs in 25 matches and has an average of 38.95 and a strike rate of 144.53.

Concluding, Bayash says,

The person whom I look up to, you are getting to spend time with him and that’s Sachin Tendulkar. It’s in itself a very big thing for me. Try to grab as much knowledge as you can from him.
